Life Sentence Suspended! Chhota Rajan Granted Bail – The Truth Behind the Decision

On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court suspended gangster Chhota Rajan's life sentence for the 2001 murder of hotelier Jaya Shetty in Mumbai and granted him bail. A division bench, comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan, instructed Rajan to provide a bond of ₹1 lakh to secure his bail. However, he will remain in jail due to other ongoing criminal cases. Earlier this year, a special court had convicted Rajan in Shetty's murder case and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Rajan appealed his conviction in the Bombay High Court, requesting that his sentence be suspended and that he be granted interim bail. Who was Jaya Shetty? Jaya Shetty was the owner of the Golden Crown hotel in Gamdevi, central Mumbai. Tragically, she was shot and killed by two alleged members of Chhota Rajan's gang on the hotel's first floor on May 4, 2001. Investigations revealed that Shetty had been receiving extortion calls from Hemant Pujari, a gang member, and was murdered after refusing to pay the demanded sum. Rajan is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of veteran crime reporter J Dey and is held at Tihar Jail in Delhi.
